The Anglers Retreat is in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Across the road is Startops Reservoir and 50yards away, the Grand Union Canal. Our award winning public house is known for good food, good beer, fine wine and a warm welcoming atmosphere. We try, wherever possible, to use fresh local produce, from seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables, local fish and game to some of our homemade speciality dishes. You could try our homemade wild goose casserole, fresh crayfish in garlic butter with granary bread freshly baked in Chesham, homemade meat pies and wonderful asparagus grown in Ivinghoe. There is an extensive menu where you will find something for everyone, special dietary needs included. We also offer a value for money Christmas menu. In 2004 we were rewarded with our first mention in the “Good Beer Guide” and by CAMRA’s Mid-Chiltern Branch awarding us their “Most Improved Pub”. We have been listed every year since and in 2006 we got our first mention in “The Good Pub Food Guide” and in the “Real Ale Guide”. We keep a good selection of wines and beers including locally brewed ales and hold two beer festivals every year to promote these. The Anglers has successful darts and crib teams and an active golf society. Well-behaved children and dogs are welcome, whether in the bar, conservatory, or in our large garden. Children and adults alike will find the aviary and pets corner interesting and fun. We are fortunate to have the quiet and tranquility of the countryside but at the same time be within easy reach of airports such as Heathrow and Luton. We are also very conveniently placed for London, Oxford and The Cotswolds. If you want to know more after browsing these pages then please email me at PPayne36@aol.com

Third time in the last couple of months that we've been here. Nice walk round the "ressies" then into the Pub for a gorgeous pint of Guinness and the best food !! The food is so good and the dogs were allowed in as well. A good old fashioned cost Pub with no frills - if you want frills go to The Harvester ! 11/10 every time !
