Stumbled on this pub whilst visiting relatives in the area. Its a traditional family run pub with a super warm welcome. The choice of food is very extensive and varied. I suffer from a wheat allergy and do struggle when dining out but this pub had a menu specially for wheat/gluten allergy sufferers. I was very very impressed. I ordered roast duck with a redcurrant and port sauce and it was Huge and impressive. I really enjoyed my meal and followed it with gluten free treacle sponge with custard and was so full afterwards. My fellow diners equally enjoyed their meals of fillet steak diane, salmon with watercress sauce and steak and ale pie. I couldnt see how any one could go away hungry and dissapointed. The service, ambiance, food and price was perfect. With so many family run pubs closing weekly its good to see one doing well. It definetly deserves a visit. Highly recommended

What was supposed to be a family birthday treat, turned to a disasterous evening, with the arrival of my main course. After our starter plates were cleared, my main meal of sea bass arrived swimming in a congealed inedible pernod sauce, which I defy anyone to eat. Attempts to get a member of staff's attention proved useless, as they were overly-attending a large party in the restaurant, who were obviously spending plenty. A member of staff finally arrived at our table, only when my family had finished their main meal and I was still sat with an untouched meal in front of me. At this point I was offered an alternative meal but felt too embarrassed to eat alone. The bill arrived, including the price of my untouched main meal. When the bill was queried, it was reduced by £2.80 (the cost of the pernod sauce). To sum up, £20 for an average starter is more than taking the mick. Recommend this place - YOU MUST BE JOKING!!!
