Popped in on the off chance, looking for a nice pub meal. Wish we'd gone somewhere else! Not exactly a warm welcome from staff, but polite enough. Seated us and brought drinks over. A nice looking menu, not too big and varied choice. Ordered two meals -- home-made beef burger and rump steak cooked medium. Service not too bad and didn't have to wait too long, not a surprise as there was hardly anyone else in there. Beef burger was basically a pile of mince squashed together with a bit of cheese on top, which fell to pieces when it was cut into. Very bland. Not even served in a bun which is what you usually get when you order a beef burger. Debatable whether the steak was actually a rump. Thin, tough, and hard to cut -- more like a piece of cheap frying steak. Asked for medium and got well done/burnt to a crisp. When you did manage to saw a bit off it you were chewing for ages to try and get rid of it. Ate as much as we could but only as we were starving after a long day. Server only asked us if everything was okay when we were paying the bill and when we said no they said "sorry about that", but no solution offered such as reducing the extortionate amount we were charged. £10.95 for the "beef burger" and £15.95 for the "rump steak". Don't mind paying prices like this if the food is good quality but this was just awful. Will never return and would not recommend anyone else go there either.

Visited this place passing through on way to Swindon, what a find. What a lovely country pub and the choice on the menu was fantastic, and the quality was very good and obviously home made. Service was also great with really friendly staff willing to take the time to talk to us. This place is far better than most pubs I have visited and we will be stopping monthly on our way to visit mum.

I had a meal with my family at the Crown Inn Cholderton last week and it was excellent. We all had what I'd call pub grub which was reasonably priced between £5-£10. There were other more expensive options on the menu but these were more like restaurant dishes so didn't expensive to me for what they were and they looked delicious as they went by!

Food was very tasty and good quality, our meal was very well presented and the staff were very friendly, good ales on offer, wine list is modestly priced, would recomend a visit.

The Crown Inn, in Cholderton, Wiltshire is a very expensive place to dine. They charge as much for a starter as neighbouring establishments charge for a main course. The landlord tends to be abrupt with the guests. However, the welcoming attitude of the bar staff more than compensates for the landlord's deficiencies. The bar itself is kept clean and tidy, and an interesting array of beverages are stocked behind the bar.
